Using social networks in business marketing applications can be successful… and NOT.
Let’s start with a simple question… What is success?
Some might measure results using analytics to track increased traffic to a web site. Others are looking for more mentions across the social networking spectrum. We all would consider increased revenues as a successful measurement. With all of these, you need to begin the measuring process with a simple and realistic question… What would I consider successful?
Here are 3 things to consider to assure success in your ‘social’ marketing efforts.
1. Establish clear and realistic objectives. Don’t think this is a ‘fast fix’ or a quick way to get cash flowing. Social media marketing is a process and requires time and a commitment. Plan to measure your success over a long period and be realistic. Remember… plan the work… and then work the plan.
2. Understand that your reputation in the ‘social’ space is valuable. Success can be measured by the number of people who ask for your opinion, or who re-publish your information. A very easy way to accomplish this level of success is to offer up “free, valuable” information. Direct your content toward ‘real life’ situations, and attempt to be timely… cover topics that are important today.
3. Listen. You can’t provide valuable information to anyone unless you know what they’re looking for … and you’ll never attract more web site visitors with all those ‘blonde’ jokes. Listen to your audience and understand what they are looking for… then deliver the answers they want. I say follow this path… listen, learn, launch, repeat.
1. clear objectives
2. valuable information
3. listen
